Over just two days, September 18–19, a newly installed camera system on the Nội Bài – Lào Cai expressway detected 236 traffic violations. Notably, 229 cases (around 97%) involved drivers failing to wear seatbelts. In addition, 5 drivers were caught using their phones while driving, and 2 other violations were recorded.
According to the Traffic Police Department, applying AI-powered cameras allows violations to be detected quickly and accurately without officers having to stop vehicles on the road. However, the high number of offenses shows that many drivers on expressways still lack awareness—especially regarding the seatbelt habit, which is a critical factor in protecting lives during accidents. Authorities warn that all road users must improve compliance to ensure safety for themselves and others.
