In recent times, Ho Chi Minh City traffic police have strictly penalized drivers for holding and using mobile phones while driving – one of the direct causes of serious traffic accidents. Since the beginning of 2025 alone, more than 1,500 violations have been recorded and handled.
Smartphones may be indispensable in daily life, but when used while driving, they become a real danger. Just one second of looking down at the screen is enough for a driver to lose focus, reduce their ability to observe and react, and pose extreme risks, especially at high speeds on expressways.
To thoroughly detect and handle such violations, the city’s traffic police have combined various measures: deploying on-site patrol units, extracting in-cabin camera footage, black box data, journey monitoring devices, and even images provided by citizens. Thanks to this, most violations are supported by clear evidence, forcing drivers to comply with penalty decisions.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Head of the PC08 Division, the enforcement is not only a deterrent but also a warning to the driving community: every touch of a screen while holding the steering wheel is a gamble with one’s own life and the lives of others. If communication is necessary, drivers must stop and park their vehicles in accordance with regulations.
In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City traffic police will continue inspections, further apply advanced monitoring technologies, and impose strict penalties to prevent this dangerous behavior, thereby contributing to maintaining traffic order and safety across the city.
