The Vietnam Register has warned that from September to December (especially in December), the demand for vehicle inspections will rise sharply, which could easily cause congestion at inspection centers. In fact, the end of the year usually sees a surge in new cars due to increased purchasing demand and promotional programs from automakers, while the industry is also facing a shortage of personnel as many inspectors are involved in ongoing legal cases.
According to forecasts, more than 420,000 vehicles nationwide will need inspections in September, with the number peaking in December at nearly 468,000. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are expected to face the greatest pressure. If inspection centers are suspended under Decree 30/2023, inspection capacity will be severely reduced, and Ho Chi Minh City may even be left without any operational centers.
The Ministry of Transport has submitted a draft amendment to address the risk of mass closures, but even if approved, the shortage of inspection staff will remain difficult to resolve.
Against this backdrop, the Vietnam Register advises vehicle owners whose inspection deadlines fall at the end of the year to proactively carry out inspections early. Vehicle owners are also encouraged to book appointments through the official application or contact inspection centers in advance to stay informed, avoid long queues, and prevent disruptions to their travel plans.
