Major General Do Thanh Binh Director of the Traffic Police Department said that the traffic police force is undergoing a modernization process applying advanced technology placing people at the center and maintaining the consistent goal of serving the public In the new phase the force focuses on three main priorities sustainably reducing traffic accidents building a strong and disciplined police force and advising on balanced development of infrastructure and transportation
In the first six months of 2025 traffic accidents nationwide decreased across all three key indicators showing that many localities have effectively implemented safety measures
However the main causes of traffic accidents still come from driver awareness including reckless overtaking failure to maintain safe distance and refusal to give way Motorcycles account for about 60 percent of accidents especially in remote areas where people lack knowledge of safe driving skills
In major cities traffic infrastructure remains problematic with a shortage of parking spaces sidewalk encroachment and unclear lane separation The traffic police will continue to propose rational planning add surveillance cameras and traffic signs and develop diverse forms of transport such as railways and waterways to reduce pressure on roads
A 24 7 traffic monitoring system will be implemented to replace manual enforcement ensuring objectivity and timeliness All violations will be detected and notifications sent within no more than 2 hours All documents will be digitized and verified directly through the system without requiring physical copies Citizens will be able to register vehicles at commune level police stations instead of by region as before
According to Major General Do Thanh Binh the purpose of traffic monitoring is not punishment but to foster public awareness and voluntary compliance for personal and community safety At the same time the force will improve service quality strictly handle internal violations and move toward a safe transparent modern and people oriented traffic environment
